{"id":50,"date":"2007-10-04T15:16:17","date_gmt":"2007-10-04T20:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/weblog.larkvi.com\/2007\/10\/04\/50\/"},"modified":"2007-10-04T15:16:17","modified_gmt":"2007-10-04T20:16:17","slug":"50","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.larkvi.com\/blog\/general\/50\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I promise that this is not going to become a forum for re-posting articles from The Online Photographer, but I thought <a href=\"http:\/\/morris.blogs.nytimes.com\/2007\/09\/25\/which-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg-part-one\/index.html\">this article<\/a> and Mike Johnson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/theonlinephotographer.typepad.com\/the_online_photographer\/2007\/09\/which-came-firs.html\">response<\/a> might interest the historians in my audience, as it is a photographic puzzle that really gets to the heart of the way that pre-conceptions, agendas, and lack of expertise can seriously impair our understanding of a historical source.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, I am not particularly convinced by the &#8216;ON&#8217; then &#8216;OFF&#8217; argument, if for no better reason than that the former just &#8216;looks wrong,&#8217; and I think I hold with those who suspect arrangement.
